Happy Chap Goh Mei

Happy Chap Goh Mei

Time flies when you’re having great fun. Finally, Chinese New Year has come to its last day. Here we would like to wish all our valued customers a very Happy Chap Goh Meh!

1. Love Does Cost a Thing

Traditionally, this day was the only day of the year for young single girls to stroll the streets to meet prospective husbands. They did it by throwing oranges into the sea, and the gentlemen that found it were assumed to be destined with them. The practice became increasingly popular over the years to the point that prices of tangerines and oranges grew significantly — love isn’t cheap, after all.

2. Men Are Going Bananas

The practice of throwing oranges apparently originated from Penang at the end of the 19th century. And up until quite recently, bachelors began participating in this tradition too, but instead of throwing oranges, they’re using bananas to show you they’re the “ripe” one for you.

3. Say My Name, Say My Name

The origins of the name dates back some 2,000 years ago, and is derived from the southern Hokkien dialect — ‘chap goh’ (fifteen) and ‘meh’ (night) — which reflects on the timeline that it’s celebrated during; the fifteenth day of Chinese New Year. However, in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao, this day is referred to as the ‘Lantern Festival’.

4. End the Day With a B.I.G. Bang

Lanterns, fireworks, and firecrackers are essential elements when it comes to celebrating the end of the auspicious occasion. It’s said that bright lights gets rid of troubles and negativity, which then sparks hope of everyone having a delightful year filled with good fortune and happiness.

Difficulty: Easy

Preparation time: 15 min

Cooking time: 5 min

Ingredients
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) red vinegar
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) lemon juice
  • 4 cloves garlic, very finely chopped
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) each salt and pepper, divided
  • 1/2 tsp (2 ml) hot pepper flakes
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 tbsp (45 ml) olive oil
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) very finely chopped fresh parsley leaves
  • 2 rib eye steaks, about 175 g each

Instructions
Stir the vinegar with the lemon juice, garlic, half each salt and pepper, the hot pepper flakes and bay leaf. Whisk in the olive oil until well combined; stir in the parsley. Let stand for at least 15 minutes; discard the bay leaf.

Meanwhile, pat the steaks dry with paper towel. Sprinkle the remaining salt and pepper over both sides of each steak.

Select the "Red Meat" program and press "OK". Lightly grease the cooking plates with cooking spray. Once the purple indicator light has stopped flashing, place the steaks on the grill and close the lid.

Cook until the indicator light has changed to the colour of desired doneness; yellow for rare, orange for medium or red for well done. Transfer the steaks to a plate and tent with foil. Rest for 5 minutes. Serve the steaks with the chimichurri sauce on the side.

Tips: Enjoy a late summer harvest inspired supper by serving the steaks with corn on the cob and sliced fresh field tomatoes. Substitute any premium grilling steak such as strip loin for the rib eye steaks if preferred.

Biolux Asia | Hydrogen Generation

What is Hydrogen?
Most of the hydrogen in nature is distributed in the universe, and it is the initial material that makes up various elements and substances in the universe.
In recent years, hydrogen has been widely used as a power source for fuel cells, which has little damage to the environment and has gradually become an alternative energy source. However, the traditional method of producing hydrogen is costly and complicated.
Due to its extremely easy combination with oxygen, hydrogen makes it a natural reducing agent and is used in antioxidant applications.
In biomedicine, as early as 1975, some people conducted research on hydrogen treatment of tumors.
In 2007, Japanese scholars pointed out that it is selective to breathe 2% of hydrogen or drink saturated hydrogen-rich water and absorb hydrogen through the digestive tract.
Neutralizes hydroxyl radicals.
Hydrogen Production Method

Membrane Electrode Electrolysis (Proton Exchange Membrane)
Ingredients: Water Consumables: Deionization Filter
The principle of membrane electrode electrolysis hydrogen production is the use of low-voltage DC-conducting solid-state membrane electrode for positive and negative electrode electrolysis deionized water, water is separated into hydrogen and oxygen atoms in the form of proton exchange at a special anode interface, oxygen from the anode Directly discharged, hydrogen is polymerized at the cathode into hydrogen molecules. The purity of hydrogen produced by the electrolysis method is about 97% or more.
The by-product of the hydrogen generation by electrolysis is oxygen, and no additional electrolyte is required.

Direct Electrolysis (Alkaline Water)
Raw Material: Water Consumables: Electrolyte
An electrolyte is added to the electrolytic cell through which the water flows, and an electric current is conducted to dissociate the water molecules.
The cathode of the DC electrode generates hydrogen gas; the anode generates oxygen.
Since hydrogen cannot be effectively dissolved in water, it is possible to collect hydrogen and oxygen by means of a drainage gas collection method, the volume of which is 2:1.
The electrolyte may be an ionic compound of a strong acid and a strong base, for example, sodium chloride, but in order to prevent the anode from generating chlorine, sodium hydroxide should be used as the electrolyte.

Magnesium Water Production Method (Chemical Reaction)
Raw material: Water Consumables: Magnesium Products
Hydrogen is generated by the reaction of magnesium rods or magnesium balls with water, and the by-product is magnesium oxide or magnesium hydroxide.
Since hydrogen cannot be effectively dissolved in water, hydrogen can be collected by the drainage gas collection method. The reaction chemical formula is as follows: Mg+2H2O → Mg(OH)2+
